Parliamentary Inquiry into Detention

The All Party Parliamentary Group on Refugees and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Migration have concluded their Inquiry into the use of detention in the UK.

The Cross Party Panel of Parliamentarians conducting the review have made a series of wide reaching recommendations for change.

Amongst the substantive calls for change are the acknowledgement that the government should introduce a time limit on detention, and consider the use of community based alternatives.

The report of the Inquiry sets out clearly that major overhaul of the system is needed, rather than further tinkering round the edges.

AVID and its partners welcome the findings of the report. You can read the report in full here.
