Consultation: Shaw Review

Review into the welfare in detention of vulnerable people

The Home Office has appointed Stephen Shaw (former Prison and Probation Ombudsman) to lead a review into the welfare in detention of 'vulnerable' people.

This review follows the high profile media coverage of the treatment of women in Yarl's Wood on Channel 4 news, as well as a series of critical reports on detention including the joint report of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Refugees and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Migration.

The review will consider the appropriateness of policies and systems concerning the welfare of those who are in detention. It will not consider the decision to detain.

We would encourage all groups to make a submission. If you would like to contact AVID with a case study or information to contribute to our review submission, contact ali.mcginley@aviddetention.org.uk

The closing date for the consultation is 31st May. You can find out more here
