AVID's AGM & Removed (animation) Screening: Reclaiming the Narrative on Immigration Detention Together

Our AGM is an opportunity for members and friends of the AVID network to receive updates from our team and trustees at AVID, hear about our impact and contribute to our future direction. Members will also have the opportunity to vote for AVID trustees.

Taking place on Friday 7th March, in the lead up to International Women's Day, we will also be hosting the premiere for Removed, a short animation which illuminates the structural and gendered violence of immigration detention in the UK.

Removed is the culmination of an extensive project which originated from research by Dr Francesca Esposito into the gendered harms of immigration detention. During the research, animation was proposed as an alternative and meaningful way to communicate the realities of detention by bringing its viewers closer to what it is like to be detained. The final animation - Removed – is a collaborative achievement with input from a wide range of organisations, individuals and groups, produced by The Unchained Collective, Border Criminologies and AVID.

After the screening, we will be hosting a "long table" discussion to inspire one another and cultivate new strategies to reclaim the narrative on immigration detention. In this open and participatory format, everyone has a voice, and your unique insights and experiences will shape the conversation as we explore what is needed in the face of detention expansion and how we can build more collaborative efforts to stand against detention.

It is an event not to be missed!
