Information provision and awareness raising
AVID produces regular information briefings about the use of detention in the UK, working to raise awareness of detention policy and its impact.
Through our monthly detention digest - In Touch - we provide regular information and updates to our members and others interested in news and developments in detention policy and practice. It also includes news from member organisations, case law updates, parliamentary monitoring and much more. Over the years In Touch has become relied upon as the only comprehensive monthly detention digest, reaching well over 700 people each month. You can access back issues at our publications page or sign up to receive the newsletter here.
"In Touch is a very useful resource for our visitors, and office staff find statistical updates particularly useful when giving talks and producing our own information materials. Without high quality and reliable information, it is very difficult to engage anyone with your arguments"
Gatwick Detainees Welfare Group
Given the size and scale of detention in the UK, it is difficult to find accurate information in a digestable format and to monitor changes. AVID produces regular briefings on the use of detention, based on the official Home Office statistics, and monitors the use and expansion over time. These can be accessed at our publications page.
AVID works to produce reports, respond to consultations on key areas of concern, and to publish briefings. These can be accessed at our publications page.
