Skill Share: Drop in support: impacts and challenges

Skills Share for AVID members

Drop-in support - benefits and challenges for visitors groups / Wednesday 22nd January

2 - 4pm

Some of AVID’s members have been running ‘Drop in support’ or workshops in detention centres for several years. This is an incredibly important service, and often an efficient way to reach people in detention who are maybe less likely to request a visitor directly.  It enables groups to provide some different types of support beyond the visits hall. This approach also has its own difficulties and different groups are facing various challenges and barriers as the services develop.

Jesuit Refugee Service UK will be facilitating this session on Wednesday 22nd January at 2-4pm at our office on Mare Street.  They will discuss how they run their service, how they work and structure their drop ins, the benefits of the drop ins in detention and the challenges they've faced.

Skillshares are collaborative, informal sessions for members to come together and share information, discuss common problems and learn more about how others approach these issues.

This Skillshare session is a chance to help visitor groups in our network to better understand how to support people through drop ins or workshops, and to provide a platform for members to come together and share expertise, challenges and solutions.

If you are interested in attending this session, please RSVP via email to gee.manoharan@aviddetention.org.uk
