Hidden Stories film screening and panel discussion: Wednesday 21st June

This event was organised by the Larne House Visitors Group as part of Refugee Week 2017. There will be two short film screenings, followed by the panel discussions with the audience.

This is a chance to see AVID's highly praised Hidden Stories film, screened alongside another challenging film exploring the UK’s detention estate, and the opportunity to speak to the filmmakers about their work in this harsh environment.

Hidden Stories (20mins) + Q&A
For over 20 years, AVID’s volunteer visitors have supported thousands of people in detention. Volunteer visitors have been a lifeline for so many detainees, offering them friendship, practical advice and emotional support at an extremely difficult time in their lives. This film charts some of their experiences.

Working Illegally (2015) (28mins) + Q&A
This documentary from Standoff Films exposes the reality of immigration detention. Told primarily through detainees' testimonies, based on original research by Corporate Watch, it offers critical insight into the labor that maintains the UK detention estate.

Followed by the film screening, members of the Larne House Visitors Group will answer questions and present the work they do in support of people in detention. The event will raise awareness locally of immigration detention and outline the importance of visiting with the Larne House Visitors Group to support those who are most vulnerable.

All are welcome and this is a free event!
