AVID AGM and VPWG report launch
AVID invites you to its AGM and the launch of:
Rethinking ‘Vulnerability’ in Detention: A Crisis of Harm
A report by the Vulnerable People Working Group of the Detention Forum
Thursday 9th July 2015, 6.15pm– 8.30pm
Freedom From Torture, 111 Isledon Road, London N7 7JW
More people than ever before are now detained without time limit in the UK. This includes increasing numbers of very vulnerable people. The absence of an effective way to prevent this has left many at risk, with critical failings leading to very serious breaches of human rights. Following the Parliamentary Inquiry and its call for a wholesale reform of the system, this new report revisits the issue of vulnerability through interviews and the case studies of 31 vulnerable detainees. Join us for this event which places the most vulnerable at the centre of a call for systemic reform of the UK detention system and asks: what is the prospect for change?
